The Holy Martyr Neonilly with her husband Terentiy and children underwent martyrdom from persecutors of Christianity in the reign of Decius (249 - 250). For the preaching of Christ, the pagans subjected the whole Christian family to terrible tortures and tortures, but did not achieve their abdication from true faith. The martyrs were beheaded.

The Holy Martyr Paraskev, who was called FRIDAY, lived in Icononia in a rich and pious family in the third century. Her parents especially revered the day of the Lord's sufferings - Friday, and that's why they named the daughter, who was born that day, Paraskeva, which is translated from Greek and means Friday. With all my heart, young Paraskeva loved the purity and high morality of virgin life and made a vow of celibacy. She wanted to devote her whole life to God and the enlightenment of the Gentiles with the light of the faith of Christ. But for the confession of the Orthodox faith, the pagan pagans grabbed her and led him to the city ruler, where they offered to sacrifice a pagan idol.Paraskeva rejected this proposal, for which she suffered great torment: tying her to a tree, the torturers tormented her clean body with iron nails, and then, tired of the torment, all ulcerated to the bone, thrown into a dungeon. But God did not leave the holy suffering and miraculously healed her tormented body. Then the executioners cut off her head.

Saint Paraskeva Pyatnitsa always enjoyed special love and reverence among the Orthodox people. The icons of St. Paraskeva were especially revered and decorated by our ancestors. Russian icon painters usually portrayed the martyr as a severe ascetic, tall, with a radiant wreath on his head. The icons of the holy martyr protect family well-being and happiness. According to church belief, St. Paraskeva is the patroness of fields and cattle. Therefore, on the day of her memory, it is customary to bring fruits to the church for consecration, which are then stored as a shrine until the next year. In addition, St. Paraskeva pray for the preservation of livestock from deaths. The holy martyr is a healer of people from the most severe mental and physical ailments.

Friday is associated with a number of customs falling on this day of the week, for example: on Friday you cannot spin and you can sew; whoever laughs a lot on Friday will cry a lot in old age. For violation of the prohibitions related to Friday and the yarn, Paraskeva Friday is strictly punishing. In general, there is a belief that St. Paraskeva walks the earth in the form of a young woman and notices who else lives, how she observes customs, prohibitions, etc. She punishes others, pardons others and even rewards them.
