There are barcode scanners that are widely used, for example, in supermarkets; biometric scanners that read fingerprints or retina; port or vulnerability scanners - software; radio frequency scanners that check the radio; graphic information scanners. Only the latter are widely named without additional prefixes to the name - just scanners. It is about them will be discussed further.
So, a scanner is a device designed to convert graphic information into digital form. With the help of a scanner, any image deposited on solid media (that is, on plain paper) is transferred to a file of the selected graphic format.There are various types of scanners - hand, drum, tablet and projection.
Hand-held scanners have recently been used rarely enough due to the wide distribution of digital cameras and mobile phones with a camera. Projection scanners are still quite widely used for digitizing images from photographic films. Drum or broaching scanners are often included in the MFP and allow you to scan multi-page documents without tediously rearranging each page.

Any flatbed scanner occupies a fairly large place on the desktop, which can never be less than the size of a regular A4 sheet. Therefore, before connecting, you should prepare enough space to install it.
Since their appearance, tablet scanners are connected to a computer via a parallel LPT port, via a SCSI interface, or via USB serial ports. LPT ports did not provide sufficient speed to transmit sufficiently large amounts of information when scanning in high resolution.SCSI, although it allows you to transfer the required volume per unit of time, but requires the installation of additional controllers and related software.
For these reasons, now almost all scanners are connected via USB-port. This interface provides sufficient speed to transmit a stream of information when scanning forty pages per minute with a resolution of 600dpi. In addition, USB ports are available in all modern computers and laptops and are supported by all operating systems, which eliminates the need to purchase additional controllers or software.
Therefore, to connect the scanner, you must ensure that there is a free port. If there is none, then the problem is easily solved by purchasing an inexpensive USB hub.
The place on the table was prepared, the port is available - now you need to prepare software that will revive your scanner. In general, this software includes a scanner driver and a wrapper program that provides a user interface for working with the device. It is best to use the drivers and software that are developed by the hardware manufacturer and come bundled with the scanner itself. In this case, the most stable scan job is guaranteed.
If there is no driver bundled with the scanner, then you can find a driver for any device on the Internet. But remember, the old models may not have working drivers for new operating systems - as a rule, manufacturers support their devices for no more than a year and a half after being discontinued.
So, install the scanner at the selected place, connect it to the 220V network and connect the USB cable to the computer. Windows will immediately ask you to install drivers for the new device. At this stage, it is preferable to abandon the automatic installation and run the driver installation program from the complete disk. The installer will automatically install all the necessary software. After installation, you may need to restart the computer.
