Psychosis is a severe mental illness consisting in a violation of mental activity, in which the person’s mental reactions are in critical disagreement with the actual situation, which leads to disorders in behavior and perception of reality.

Causes of psychosis

The emergence of psychoses can be influenced by 2 groups of factors - external (exogenous) and internal (endogenous). Among the first can be noted:

  • various infections;
  • alcohol and drug addiction;
  • poisons of industrial origin;
  • any stress;
  • psychological injuries, etc.

Endogenous causes are often associated with abnormalities in the development of the nervous system or with changes in the endocrine system.

Symptoms of psychosis

It has already been noted that with psychosis there are various abnormalities - they are the main symptoms of the disease.Among them are:

  • hallucinations;
  • crazy ideas;
  • motor disorders (stupor, severe motor agitation);
  • mood disorders (depression, manic, etc.)

Psychosis treatment

Psychosis causes severe harm not only to the patient, but can also be dangerous to others. Methods of treatment of psychosis can be varied, but it is better to use them in combination. Among the methods are the following:

  • medication;
  • psychological;
  • physiotherapy.
